One or more of my outlets suddenly stopped working. How can I fix it?

There are many reasons as to why your outlets may have stopped working suddenly and we appreciate this is far from ideal. There are methods to fix this yourself, however, please exercise caution when working with electrics!

If in any doubt, please contact us and one of our Professional Engineers will be more than happy to help resolve this issue for you so you can have full peace of mind.

  • The DIY Fix

    1. Check the breaker box: A tripped breaker is the most common cause of a dead outlet or string of outlets.

    2. Check the GFCI: If the dead outlet is near a wet location (kitchen, bathroom, garage, outdoors), check if a nearby GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet has tripped (indicated by a "RESET" button that pops out) and press the "TEST" button.

  • When to Call an Electrician: If the fuse box isn't tripped and the RCD is fine, there may be loose wiring behind the socket or in the circuit, which warrants professional attention.
